Survey Monkey Results and Analysis

By using this as the very first question it allowed my to expand m knowledge on just how many people read music magazines. From 24 people answering my survey 58% of people said no to regularly reading music magazines. From this information I can establish that music magazines are not very popular and that not many people buy them to read. This means that  my music magazine has to be eye catching and interesting to entice the audience to pick up the magazine and want to read it. In order o do this I will have to make my magazine very unique, find a gap in the market and use many conventions such as pugs, interesting cover lines and images to lure the target audience into reading my magazine. Although 41% of people said yes to reading music magazines, I will need to focus mainly on those who said no to reading music magazines in order to open up my magazine to the larger target audience.

This question allowed me to find out what type of music magazine would be most popular and what type of music magazines people prefer.  Through looking at the data put of 24 people  the least common genres of music are Hip-Hop (0%), Classical (12.5%) and R&B(12.5%), this maybe due to how I portrayed my survey and to certain groups of people but from my data these genres of music are not very popular. I posted the link to my survey onto Facebook and twitter to get the responses needed for my research, I posted them on theses websites because this is where the majority of my target audience will be. The next most popular genres of music were EDM (16.5%) and Heavy Rock (16.5%). this is also due to the specific target audience I aimed my survey at. this means that the generalisation of my music magazine is aimed at teens. The most popular music genres were Pop at 41.67% and Rock at 45.83%. these were clearly the most popular genres out of all of the genres of music. I think this is because of the target audience I aimed my survey at by posting it onto Facebook and Twitter. From this data I can tell that I need to create either a Pop or Rock magazine.

The next question in my survey I left open for people to write in their own responses, this was so that I could see the variety of context and information that people would expect to find in a music magazine. Many people who answered my survey said that they would expect to fine images, latest music, interviews, concert information and artist information in a music magazine. Some people said that they would be interested in artist gossip and reviews on songs, albums and gigs etc. this tells me that I need to have a varied amount of context in my music magazine related to artists, music and images of the artists.

My next question was very useful to me in giving me a preference to what people prefer in music magazines. More images to text, more text to images or equal amounts of each. 75% of people prefer to have an equal amount of text to images which means that I will highly consider doing this in my music magazine as this is what the audience prefer. 8.33% of people who did my survey preferred more text to images this is the minority out of the results for this question. 16.67% of people said that they prefer more images to text which is also a minority of results therefore I will, take the equal amount of text to images on board more as this seems to be what the audience prefer and I feel that this will fit in more with the specific target audience.

The next questions results were very interesting as this was a question on colour scheme for the magazine. This will be very useful to me as it will allow me to pick my colour scheme according to what the audience prefer. The least favourite colours the audience picked were grey, yellow and green with 12.5%. The next was purple with 16.67%. these colours I will most likely not be including in my colour scheme for my music magazine as they did not have a very high percentage overall. The next lowest percentages were orange with 20.83%, pink with 29.17% and blue with 37.5% these colours I may consider using in my music magazine colour scheme because they have quite high percentages compared to others but there are three colours which scored the highest percentage out of all of the colours listed which are white with 54.17% , red with 62.5% and black with 75% these are the colours I am defiantly going to highly consider when creating my music magazine as these are the most popular colours the audience have chosen as a target audience.

This question has allowed me to gain a good understanding of the price people would be willing to pay for a music magazine. All 24 people answered this question. 4.17% of people said that they would be willing to pay over £4 for a music magazine. The next set of people  (16.67%) said they would be happy to pay between £3 and £3.99 for a music magazine. 33.33% said they would be willing to pay between £0.99 and £1.99 for a music magazine. 45.83% of people this is the majority of people who answered my survey said that they would be happy to pay between £2.00 and £2.99 for a music magazine. this means that from this data my music magazine needs to be priced at an affordable price in order to attract the right target audience considering the age and demographic. The lower the price of the magazine, the more people will be likely buy it.

SURVEY MONKEY QUESTIONNAIRE

One of the research task was to create a survey on music magazines and get people to answer it, so then I can analyse the results and then take on-board the information to help me when designing my music magazine. Here are the screen shots of my survey monkey questionnaire and my Facebook and Twitter posts asking people to fill out my survey.

CASE STUDY ON MUSIC MAGAZINE RESEARCH.

Case Study of music magazines by Lauren Scurry on GoAnimate

This is a GoAnimate video of a summary of my research of my two magazines. It outlines what I found out from analysing the magazines and what I will use and integrate into my own music magazines.

MUSIC MAGAZINE TIME LINE.

For my second research task I have chosen to analyse several different types of music magazines. I have created a Prezi to display my findings and analysis on them. Through analysing the different magazines I now have better idea on price, circulation figures, what makes a music magazine successful and target audience.

GENRE MOOD BOARDS.

For my first research task I chose to create four mood boards of different genres of music. The four genres are Pop, R&B , Rap and Rock.

The first mood board I chose to research was 'Pop'. To create this mood board I looked on the Internet for several images related to the 'Pop' music genre. The images on my mood board consist of Pop artists, Pop Magazines, Album covers and Audiences that may be interested in this type of music.

The second mood board I chose to research was 'R&B'. To create this mood board I looked on the Internet for several images related to the 'R&B' music genre. The images on my mood board consist of R&B artists, R&B Magazines and Album covers.

The third mood board I chose to research was 'Rap'. To create this mood board I looked on the Internet for several images related to the 'Rap' music genre. The images on my mood board consist of Rap artists, Rap Magazines, Album covers and Audiences that may be interested in this type of music.

The fourth mood board I chose to research was 'Rock'. To create this mood board I looked on the Internet for several images related to the 'Rap' music genre. The images on my mood board consist of Rock artists, Rock Magazines, Album covers and Audiences that may be interested in this type of music.

To accompany this task I have created a podcast to explain each of my mood boards. In this podcast, I have covered the conventions of music magazine from each mood board genre the audiences that read them. Below is my mood board podcast.
